Educational Psychology

I provide consultations, assessments and school interventions to support children and young people who may be experiencing difficulties related to their learning, behaviour and social life.

I also provide assessments for young people aged 16 and over and adults who may require educational, cognitive or Specific Learning Difficulties assessments.

I have put together different packages to help clients decide which service would best suit their needs:
Educational Assessments
These assessments involve:
  • An initial consultation with clients –including their parents/teachers if applicable- to discuss areas of strength and difficulty as well as issues such as: How long have the difficulties been present? What strategies have already been tried? and What are the client’s targets for the future?
  • A comprehensive, standardised cognitive assessment of the client’s abilities in the areas of verbal comprehension, perceptual organisation, working memory and speed of information processing. This assessment is also called an intelligence assessment and yields an IQ score.
  • A literacy assessment. This includes standardised assessments of reading, reading speed, spelling, writing, reading comprehension, and of phonological abilities such as blending skills.
  • A numeracy assessment, including mathematical reasoning (applying mathematical concepts to everyday life) and number skills.
  • A comprehensive report specifying the results of the assessment, including areas of strength and difficulty as well as individual recommendations for support referring to:
-any learning difficulties
-school placements
-necessary exam dispensations, if applicable
-support needed to enhance the client’s educational experience in terms of motivation and achievement.

For children these assessments are usually carried out at their home or school.

School visits also include observations of the child in different settings (lessons and playground if appropriate), consultations with school staff and home school consultations involving parents, children and staff.

Adults will need to make an appointment to see me at my consulting room.

Follow up appointments are also available and charged at a sessional rate if at the client’s home, school or workplace; or at an hourly rate if at my consulting room. ( Click here for my terms and conditions).

Please contact me if you would like to discuss these assessments or request an appointment.
Specific Learning Difficulties Assessments
The assessment includes:
  • A consultation with the client –including their parents and teachers, if applicable- about their educational and social background, the history of the difficulties and their aims for the future.
  • A standardised cognitive assessment. This will assess the client’s abilities in the areas of verbal comprehension, perceptual organisation, working memory and speed of information processing. This assessment is also called an intelligence assessment and yields a Full Scale IQ score.
  • A literacy assessment. This includes standardised assessments of reading, reading speed, spelling, writing, reading comprehension.
  • A phonological processing assessment including skills such as blending, segmenting, and being able to decode unfamiliar and made- up words.

  • This assessment is also called an intelligence assessment and yields aFull Scale IQ score

For children these assessments are usually carried out at their home or school.

School visits also include observations of the child in different settings (lessons and playground if appropriate), consultations with school staff and home school consultations involving parents, children and staff.

Adults will need to make an appointment to see me at my consulting room.

Follow up appointments are also available and charged at an hourly rate. I will provide this on request by email. ( Click here for my terms and conditions).

Please contact me if you would like to discuss these assessments or request an appointment.
Cognitive assessments
I can carry out a standardised cognitive assessment through the use of the WISC V UK or the WAIS IV UK and without the extra assessments required for the educational and Specific Learning Difficulties assessments. This will assess the client’s abilities in the areas of verbal comprehension, perceptual organisation, working memory and speed of information processing. This assessment is also called an intelligence assessment and yields a Full Scale IQ score.

For children under 16 years of age these assessments are usually carried out at their home or school.

School visits also include observations of the child in different settings (lessons and playground if appropriate), consultations with school staff and home school consultations involving parents, children and staff.

Adults will need to make an appointment to see me at one of my consulting rooms.

Follow up appointments are also available and charged at a sessional rate of 3 hours if at the client’s home/school or at an hourly rate if at my consulting room. ( Click here for my terms and conditions).

Please contact me if you would like to discuss these assessments or request an appointment.
School Work
I have extensive experience in working with schools in a variety of ways: undertaking individual casework, devising and initiating interventions, providing bespoke training to suit staff needs, and providing systemic consultations on issues related to the organisation.

The following packages may help illustrate the type of service I can offer to schools:

1-Individual casework:
This includes consultations with parents and teachers; assessment (academic, cognitive and behavioural/emotional); observations and reporting on particular students who are causing concern. Parental consent is of course sought both as a legal requirement and as a way of working in a collaborative manner with the students’ most important systems: family and school.

2-Whole school development work:
This may involve a time-limited project to work on different areas:
  • promoting mental health in pupils and staff;
  • working with staff in understanding and managing pupils with ADHD, Autism, SpLDs;
  • developing policies such as behaviour and anti-bullying;
  • working with focus groups of staff to tackle work-related difficulties and to set up/promote peer support or work discussion groups.

3-Training on different areas such as specific learning difficulties, managing behaviour and neurodevelopmental condiitons such as ADHD.

These are just examples of the services that I could offer to schools. Please contact me if you would like to discuss your school’s unique needs in more detail.

Systemic Therapy

I offer Systemic Therapy in Ipswich, Suffok.

Typically, this involves 6 weekly or fortnightly sessions, the first of which is an initial consultation to find out whether therapy may be helpful for clients.

After the 6 sessions we have a review and decide whether more sessions are needed or whether the intervention may end. Sometimes it only takes a few sessions to help a couple or family to find a new way of relating. Sometimes difficulties are more complicated, and clients may need longer to find the solutions that work best for them.

Please contact me if you would like to discuss therapy in more detail.
